What to know about your family session:

LOCATION: if we have not already decided on your location, I do have a location guide to help decide the best location for your session. I know it doesn’t seem like it, but there are a handful of hidden gems in West Texas that make a great backdrop for your session!

when will we start: I am a natural light photographer, which means I rely on the sun for my sessions rather than flashes. session times will start approximately one hour after sunrise or one hour before sunset, pending on which session time you have selected. If you are having your session at your home, I prefer to start those sessions at 10 am.

Session Length: One of the questions I am asked most often is how long will our session last? Your session should not last more than an hour. I do my absolute best to curate a wonderful gallery for your family and unless there is an unforeseen circumstance, I should be able to do that within the hour.

Props: the only prop that I use during my session is a rug incase we are on some rugged or wet terrain. If you have a prop in mind that would like to use, please let me know in advance.

What to wear: My biggest tips for wardrobe are to be comfortable, to dress in your style, and coordinate rather than match. We do move quite a bit during your session. Make sure you can move up and down easily and without showing more than you want to show. Please check the weather prior to your session to make sure everyone is adequately dressed for your session.

parents: I know that for most of your life you’ve looked at the camera. For this session, I want you to only look at the camera when asked. It’s going to be tough, but I know you’ve got this. Because this is a lifestyle session, I do encourage each member of your family to be themselves. I ask that you let me guide, pose, and direct throughout the session. If you feel the urge to redirect a family member, please do it with a grin on your face and love in your voice. Please understand that at no point during the session will I ask any member of your family to say “cheese”, I ask that you also do the same.

Children: First and foremost, stranger danger is real thing. While your children may be acquainted with me, most are still very reserved around the lady with the camera. The best way to prepare them is to have a conversation about who I am and what I will be doing. I will never ask them to say “cheese”, I ask that you refrain from doing this as well. Just for today, everything that they do (good or bad) is the cutest thing you have ever seen. Please refrain from disciplining your children during our session. If I need help, I will ask, otherwise let me be during your time with me. I understand that it takes a while for most to warm up and will never ask them to do anything they are uncomfortable with. Make sure they are well fed and rested for their session. Have a few dry, non-messy snacks and some water just in case they need a break during the session (please note, I will probably still be shooting during the break). They are also more than welcome to bring their lovie to the session. Just like with the adults at the session, I will rarely ask them to look at the camera and am ok with them being wiggly throughout our session. If I feel that anything is getting out of hand, I will reign us back in.

Please remember to be on time as I am a natural light photographer. I have a limited availability with light and ask that you plan for travel time, parking, and any other prep necessary to get ready for your session.
